I have an LG widescreen monitor, which until now I have not been able to have display its native resolution properly - ie 1680x1050 at 60hz.

The resolution may be correct, but the Desktop is either too far to the right or is too wide and the monitor controls fail to correct it properly.

I'm using various Kubuntu's ( 6.06 to 7.10) and LinuxMint 4,

I haverecently installed Fedora 8 KDE LiveCD which automatically gives me the correct resolution and a perfect desktop. It also automatically finds and installs my HP Deskjet D1460 ( another story with Kubuntu and Mint).

Unfortunately Fedora 8 seems littered with bugs/problems - ie Flash in browsers, Java, slow screen updates and video in browsers ( all other video works fine) etc.

What I'd like to be able to do is apply the appropriate files/packages for obtaining the widescreen to Kubuntu.Mint., but I don't know exactly which are the required packages.

I'd assume that the newer kernel and xorg packages are part of the equation, and that I'm probably not likely o be able to accomplish this.

I've tried other LiveCD's ( ie ZenWalk) that are supposed to handle widescreens without luck.

Any links/urls/advice appreciated as after having the widescreen work properly in Fedora 8 its hard to go back to a stretched 1024x768 on Kubuntu/Mint.

Thanks

Bill
