Hi all, > It's a desktop actually. But here's what i did, i do have > an older desktop (also AMD 64), and i booted it up using the > Jaunty AMD64 Live CD. Networking works fine!
i did some further poking around. Firstly, i'm using the motherboard Asus M2A-MVP. It's onboard LAN is Marvell 88E8001. So i did a search and found (http://hardware4linux.info/component/5811/) that apparently there have been problems reported with Ubuntu 7.04 x86_64. Secondly, i also tried the following (not sure if these are relevant): $ sudo lshw -C network *-network description: Ethernet interface product: 88E8001 Gigabit Ethernet Controller vendor: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. physical id: 4 bus info: p...@0000:02:04.0 logical name: eth0 version: 14 serial: 00:1b:fc:28:6c:59 size: 100MB/s capacity: 1GB/s width: 32 bits clock: 66MHz capabilities: pm vpd bus_master cap_list ethernet physical tp 10bt 10bt-fd 100bt 100bt-fd 1000bt 1000bt-fd autonegotiation configuration: autonegotiation=on broadcast=yes driver=skge driverversion=1.13 duplex=full firmware=N/A latency=64 link=yes maxlatency=31 mingnt=23 module=skge multicast=yes port=twisted pair speed=100MB/s *-network DISABLED description: Ethernet interface physical id: 1 logical name: pan0 serial: 7a:9c:52:38:82:cb capabilities: ethernet physical configuration: broadcast=yes driver=bridge driverversion=2.3 firmware=N/A link=yes multicast=yes $ lspci | grep thernet 02:04.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8001 Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 14) Again, i really am ignorant about this, so i don't know if it's relevant, but in "lshw -C network", could the "width: 32 bits" be the dodgy part?
