Don't guess, go and check:

The patch is not in the stable tree.
You can try to stick with the bug above, they might or might not
include the patch to the specific distro, because it's a workaround
(blacklisting) for the buggy hardware. The fastest way is to try it
yourself ;-)

There is a big chance that you'll just need to plug a new
card/motherboard/whatever. Modern distros prefer to have all possible
drivers compiled in.
