I'm also in the same situation as Jason and Sully. We have 45 airBridge Outdoor units deployed in our Kansas coverage area. We have never used a airBridge Total there. We run the stock 12V power supply, and do not ground the Ethernet.
But, I have experienced numerous of weird problems in our Nebraska coverage area. Today I was at a customer's location and was ready to fire everything up but I couldn't ping the radio. My laptop would show that I was connected. (Ethernet light was on). So I tried different subnets and evening arping to see if I could find the unit. (airBridgeO) I seriously thought I had the dreaded Ethernet burnout. I unplugged and reseted the power shot a few times and added a 18v power supply. After about 2 minutes it started working. It just seems like 90% percent of what I do is freakin' BLACK MAGIC! I use static, no grounding, 12V power supply provided. I've had APPO, AP Totals, and ABO units running from 1-8 months, and have never had any of the strange problems discussed. I have old and new units, and old and new firmware. I'm guessing we are dealing with one of several problems, like DHCP, user error, poor connections, etc. Maybe it is time for sB to put together a comprehensive survey and get some data instead of reacting in a knee-jerk fashion to complaints in this forum. Sullivan Sent: Saturday, June 14, 2003 12:02 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [smartBridges] We've just about had it Just to add my really quick 2 cents. I have had 30 units online since January...with all working superbly. 1. I use only static IPs (both sB unit and client computer on same subnet) 2. I do not use any grounding. I am in the process of deploying 30 more (newly acquired) units. I will let you know if I run into any problems. Side Note: I recently put a rule in my firewall that stops broadcast pings from my clients. Since then, I have had some problems with clients not able to surf the net?? I am thinking...and I don't know yet...but I am thinking that the broadcast ping is needed for the client to talk to the gateway??? I am always able to ping the wireless device and client computer...just the client cant surf the net. Sounds like a DNS issue...but it is not. I think it is something with the pings I am blocking at the firewall (prior to the gateway).??? Maybe SB could put a grounding lug on the bottom of the outdoor units...
