Is there any rule of thumb of limit speeds vs actual throughput. I mean, If
I limit someone to 516 down, they don't see 516 they see around 4 something.

The only question I have on the BriLan software they answered for me. Currently, you HAVE to put the users in a QUEUE. Each queue you can limit bandwidth, however, you have to create a queue for each user. Otherwise, if you say, they get 256, and you put 10 people in that queue. They are all sharing 256.

The next version of BriLan due out in January is going to have per MAC or IP
bandwidth restrictions, plus more than 128 queues. I called them and they
told me 250 bucks for the bandwidth management software :) Inexpensive
solution for up to 128 users :)

This system is designed as an AP with bandwidth management 128 is really

the

sweet spot for this code. The new version will not have a limit like

this,

plus a BUNCH of new feature :)

My guess is if you have multiple clients in the same queue they will share that queue. sucky. yeah this version only has 128 queues, the upgrade will support 256? Tony can confirm.

When the specs say 128 queues, does that mean I can only use this
software to limit up to 128 customers? Since I was under the
impression that you have to put each customer in it's own queue if
they are to have the full use of the bandwidth assigned to

that queue.

I guess i dont understand why the screen in brilan for bandwidth
shaping is not what you want.

do you have each radios mac address for your subs in its own queue?

I'm looking for a real time view of usage. Brilan can show overall

realtime

or usage over extended periods. My understanding is that mikrotik
with

mrtg

can break it down to 1 min intervals. That is close to real time.

Is anyone familiar with a monitoring program which will
graphically show which mac/ip is currently using what
bandwidth? I use Brilan but unfortunately it only

shows what

has been used and an over all current usage.
