Subject: RE: [smartBridges] aBO with pigtail waterproof connectorI agree with the metal box, but not if it ups the pricepoint maybe for the nexus? I dropped a APPO and the god damn box cracked :( my fault of course I just used silicon to fix the crack. Also I like the idea of plugging directly onto the board, but I think the reason they were avoiding this is cause they don't really want you opening the unit to have to do things I suppose. However an alternative is to get rid of the external lil cat5 make the cat5 plug directly onto the white box and then like the female half of the waterproof connector screw onto the box itself, just a idea.

They could probably just do the following with very
little (if any) cost increase.- The mounting plates on the top and bottom of the radio
are metal. Just attach a ground point inside the box to
one of the mounting bolts for grounding to the mast.
Attach your lead from your shielded Cat-5 and you are set.
- Insert (with glue) some thin metal pieces on all the inside
surfaces of the existing box to shield from close by RF interference.
(like two radios being mounted very close to each other, etc..)
- Put a hinge on one side of the door of the exiting box and
we can just use the two current screws in the corners on the
other side to open it up. (not going to open them that often
anyway, right?)
- Add some kind of plastic Zig Zag pieces to the inside edge of
the box where your Cat-5 gets threaded through to provide cheap
and easy strain relief. Add a gasket, or gland, or whatever
you want to call it in the hole on the bottom of the unit for
the Cat-5 to pass through. Then we can just plug our own Cat-5
straight into the board. That gives us a grounded box, that is RF shielded, has access to
the inside to plug in the Cat-5 directly to the board so we can
all use our favorite Cat-5 type, and provides a cleaner looking
and more weather resistant install. All of it could be done for what is currently being spent on the
"weatherproof" connector and the Cat-5 that is included, and would
be a minimal manufacturing process change. All of this is of course IMHO. :-)

Title: RE: [smartBridges] aBO with pigtail waterproof connector
Chris
Have
you ever seen Trango
You
plug the cat 5 connector directly into the bottom of the
radios
There
is a weather proof connector, I believe called a umg that screws and tightens up
on the cat 5 cable
My
Observation
