There are different RJ45 connectors available for solid and stranded CAT5 cable. To avoid problems, make sure the connector matches the cable. It's important to verify that the individual wires are fully inserted into the connector. I use connectors with a metal shell covering to pick up the CAT5 shield ground, but I am quite certain the smartBridge does not terminate this ground like some brands of equipment (e.g.Trango). At the other end of the shielded CAT5, I use a 3M shield grounding device to tie the shield ground to the building entrance protector ground.(e.g. Motorola Canopy surge projector). As mentioned elsewhere, it is important to tie the grounds together with the building electrical ground to avoid ground loop potentials across the Ethernet links.

CAREFUL when using the old black cable its stranded and even I who crimp god knows how many connectors messes up stranded cable, the slightest nick and a stray hair of wire touching can cause everything to short out. It's much easier to make sure the conductors are touching the connectors conductors but if a stray wire touches (hard to tell) your screwed and will eventually have problems.

Replacing the cable fixed it.  This was the 3rd time I had tried to use that cable from one of the old ABO's.  Needless to say I am not using that cable again.  I do have a radio that is flaking out and I am thinking it could be the heat issue.  The MAC is 00-30-1A-01-CD-EB.  I'll let you know what I find out.  I am going to go get it and do the firmware update on it.

        All of the lights are on.  I do believe that I mentioned that in my previous email "...all of the lights are on the airbridge and my laptop shows a connected network."  It might be a bad cable that is why I am going to test another cable out today, but what I was trying to use was a 50' cable that I took off an old ABO.  I also stated that I tried to ping the device by adding a static ARP entry for the MAC address/IP address and I could not ping it.  That normally works when I cannot search for the device in Simplemonitor.  I will try your utility out also and let you know what I find.

Please ensure that Ethernet port is lighted up before login to the unit.

 

If still unable to login to the unit, please kindly follow the below steps

1.       Use the following method to search the device from the DOS prompt.

1.       Apsearchmgr (obtained from http://www.smartbridges.com/beta/utility/sBSearchMgr.zip )

2.       DOS prompt>apsearchmgr

OR

3.       Ping directed broadcast address eg.192.168.0.255

4.       and check >arp -a,

Can you see the device MAC and IP address listed?

Has anyone had ABO MAC# 00-30-1A-01-E2-27 before?  I got it from E-comm a few weeks ago for an install.  Instead of testing it in the office like I normally do I had a brain fart and decided to go ahead and install it.  I just got back from trying to configure it and I cannot get into the bridge.  I have my IP set to 192.168.0.55 / 255.255.255.0 - no gateway and no firewall.  

 

I have done a hard reset and let it reset 6 times in a row.  I have manually entered the MAC in my arp table with the IP of 192.168.0.22/255.255.255.0 and I cannot ping it.  The only thing I can think of is that I am using the cable form one of the old units that came with outdoor cat5.  I had tried to use this cable before and it didn't work so Monday I am going to replace it. The only thing to dispute my own troubleshooting is that all of the lights are on the airbridge and my laptop shows a connected network.  I will let everyone know what I find on Monday.  

 

As a side note to listening to everything going on lately I am still planning a large network upgrade this fall.  I should be able to cover every town in my county.  I am still planning on using SB equipment as of today.  While on the one hand I can say that almost all of the issues I have faced have been my fault, there are still some issues with the equipment.  I would like to see more input from SB about the issues that we are seeing, especially those issues that have been occurring for many months.  If not for the dedication of a few individuals on this listserv, the heat issue would not have been solved in such a timely manner and I thank those of you who took the time to figure that out.
