At one of our troublesome hotspots, most of the clients are using Orinoco cards. A while back while playing with a Airbridge I found that the airbridge could associate with access points the Orinoco card did not even see. The AirBridge certainly has a good receiver.
At that time we were using an AP-1000 for our Access point. We moved on to a Mikrotik with internal 200mw prism2 card and now have a Mikrotik with SmartBridges AirPoint. My gut feeling at this location is that the Orinoco card, talking to the AP-1000 offered the best performance under marginal conditions. Marginal conditions meaning low signal level, multipath, trees, and other obstructions at the hotspot. Unfortunately, because these are mobile clients, an airbridge is not really a viable solution. I am not quite sure why the airPoint doesn't seem to perform quite as well as the AP-1000 (and I have to admit there isn't much difference).
