I was thinking about a script that looks at your dummynet data and apply the business rule (e.g. cut off the service after 5GB). This will then change the RADIUS profile.
Byte counters are easy to do in the radio (it may be already there). The tricky part is what business rules to design into the unit. As different people would have different requirements. Nish, how does the radius server know how much bandwidth has been used by each person? If you have a byte counter in the radio, it could write the contents of the counter from RAM into the flash memory every 5 min. Then it doesn't matter if the power is turned off, you only loose up to 5 min. of counted bytes. Right now, I have a page for each customer where they can see how much they have transferred each month. http://www.broadbandbeebe.com/login/levi.php The main advantage to me in having bandwidth throttling at the AP is that I can then remove my dummynet server, meaning one less point of failure, and one less machine to maintain. I can't really do this if I can't write a script to see how much bandwidth someone has transferred. I think this should not be too difficult to implement externally in a script to change the RADIUS profile when the user exceeds certain set criteria. Doing it on the AP itself would have a few problems - e.g. the power goes down and now the traffic counters start all over again.
