I'm presuming that you are losing the excess Tx power in a coax feeder to
stay uk legal, (you need to drop 3dB in the cable). Using the setup with
omni antennas its no surprise you are receiving something just now. Once
the leaves grow back assume there will no link whatsoever. Leaves
especially when they are damp soak up the 2.4GHz signals and you will very
likely receive nothing at all.
As you will have noticed the link quality and RSSI figures are form never
never land but you can put in your own figures to see something more
realistic. The bandwidth you get depends on the strength of the received
signal, at various threshold levels the bandwidth changes, 11Mb up to
-84dB, 5.5Mb to -87dB,2mb to -88db and 1Mb to -93dB. If you use Total units
they seem to have better figures but SmartBridges doesn't print them
anywhere. I've only seen 1Mb at -107dB in their brochures with no details
for the rest.
So if you want the link to be permanent you need to get line of sight
between the places, you'll find that upping the tx power to get round your
problem will only make it weather sensitive; Dry- low quality link, wet-no
link.

Please respond to
smartBridges
Ah, thank you. What is the corrilation between RSSI and bandwidth?

mill house building over a river in the vally. There are quite a few trees
and a small hill in between. The RSSI is a good 50% and the Link Quality is
85% It is autum and the leaves have mostly fallen.

assume that the link could be lost altogether when the leaves grow back?
What can I do to ensure the link is reliable?
