It's Band C you want, not Band B (Thats currently reserved). Band C Permits
2 Watts. The Alvarion BreezeAccess VL Equipment we have recently ordered
runs at 5.8Ghz, and provides ~15Km @ 12Mbits. There are some case studies on
the alvarion site. The stuff is expensive tho, the CPE costing 400 quid for
the 6Mbit version (two varients 6Mbit & 54Mbit - no difference other then a
license key that turns features on/off on the unit). They are Non-LOS too,
goes thru trees, over mountains (see the Dublin, Ireland Case study) - Read
the case studies on Alvarion website - seriously clever (albeit expensive)
stuff. The Base Stations are 54Mbps with 32.8Mbps of real world throughput.
If you are looking for 5.8Ghz point to point offerings - the Breezenet B28
and B14 exist. As far as I can tell it would be better to get a BreezeAccess
VL and operate one subscriber unit on it which would provide a ptp link with
better overall throughput. Other vendors (albeit not outdoor I'm told) are
Proxim with their MP11a offerings (Point-to-Multi Point).

I'm hoping smartBridges secretive 'nexus' range includes 5.8 Ghz offerings,
ideally CPE which can connect to our 'soon to be installed' Alvarion
infrastructure, because the Alvarion stuff is good, but horribly expensive.

Colin.
