You need the DivX Playstation Network adaptor http://www.divx.com/hardware/?src=toptab_hardware_from_/index.php
For $50 you can watch video on demand on your Playstation 2. Clearly DVD plays will start being fitted with Ethernet ports, if only to allow people to watch stuff held on their PC on their TV. The DivX standard works on all types of computers (Windows, Linux, Apple) as well as on various games machines. There are plenty of movies to rent on the DivX site. I don't know how they manage it legally, I believe from the news letters they have a lot of battles with Holywood storm troopers and terminator types trying to shut them down. The technology is all there ready for us to use. A suitably equipped Playstation could be sold by WISPs wanting to offer this sort of service. This type of machine would also encourage network gaming. Talking with our local video shop owner who is on our wireless network, he says that it's people who don't understand the technology which is holding this back. It will be massive. However only now do people watch movies on disk. We have had movies on disk for over 20 years. Laser Disc, then Video CD, then DVD. 50 for a DVD player and people still say "oh I won't be able to work it, I have only just learned the VHS system" DUH, you don't record on it, how hard can it be to press play? When it 'tips' Broadband Video Rental will be massive. As a WISP we are wiring several PCs in peoples homes together to share broadband. No one has yet wired in their PS2 although I always offer. As a WISP you tend to think of how cool it would be to do this. Here are some good reasons; 1. Video is never 'on loan' 2. Huge library of video 3. No bills due to forgetting to return the video 4. Loads of free stuff to chose from Bad reasons; 1. Piracy 2. Don't want to watch movies on the PC 3. Bandwidth DivX assists all the above. You can download a video which expires afer a date. You can get DivX on the PS2. 1 hour of DivX is about 1 CDs worth rather than 1 DVDs worth. Lets do it, Wayland. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Blazen Wireless" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Monday, November 17, 2003 2:39 AM Subject: Re: [smartBridges] Voice & Video on vemand (Love to hate Comcast) > Okay so how do the end clients view this video and then again how do they > attach it to their surround sound system or home theatre? how good is the > quality and does the net transport all the Dolby signals as well? > > This sounds interesting??
