Helix Server from realnetworks (www.real.com) is what you want. Download the trial Internet Server. Supports MPEG4 Compliant Streams (Not DIVX I think), WMA, WMV, MP3, MOV, RM and a zillion others. It's not cheap if you opt to buy it though. It's got a pure HTML interface with java server monitor and loads of enterprise options (broadcast, unicast,multicast, licensing, player tracking - soooo many). I seem to remember everything worked in the trial version, or they might have restricted number of connections - been a while. Oh, it can also run on Windows, Linux, FreeBSD and Mac OS I think - at least thats what they say.

We also need a decent server... something that:
 
-has an easy HTML client interface so you can point computers or STBs at it
-has accounting so you know who watched what
-can limit the number of people watching a particular movie file to the number of copies of the movie you own
 
If we had a server package, we could beta-test the service to clients that don't mind watching movies on their computer screen.
