According to what I posted to this list earlier:
"This is just to let You know that after consulting jperkin I've built and
made available a version-bumped build of apcupsd packaged in the 2014Q3
tree in a base64-14.3.0 zone. It contains the latest upstream updates and
thus supports modbus over serial - I'm using it from my GZ against an APC
SMT750I running firmware 09.1 via an Aten UC232A USB dongle that works
perfectly with the usbsprl driver.
It's reachable at https://www.gerczei.eu/files/apcupsd-3.14.12nb1.tgz -
feel free to make use of it if You like; it can be installed via pkg_add."
I can re-build it, if You want me to. At the time I built this, it was
newer than the one in the repo.

The contents must be unpacked to live at /opt/apcupsd.
I never got around to making an SMF manifest for the service part and I
had to run a command to get it see my UPS over USB:
update_drv -a -i '"usbif51d,class3"' ugen
(It's possible you need to run that at every boot. I reboot so
infrequently that I forget...)
Generally seems to work with my UPS:
[root@smartos ~]# /opt/apcupsd/sbin/apcupsd
[root@smartos ~]# /opt/apcupsd/sbin/apcaccess | egrep
'(VERSION|MODEL|CABLE|DRIVER|STATUS|TIMELEFT)'
VERSION : 3.14.10 (13 September 2011) sun
CABLE : USB Cable
DRIVER : USB UPS Driver
MODEL : Back-UPS RS 1500G
STATUS : ONLINE
TIMELEFT : 73.7 Minutes
Probably suitable for home use but for production you probably want to
figure out how to build it yourself...
