No I cant ping 8.8.8.8 nor 192.168.1.1 because smartos cant see the net0 or
net1! Funny thing is I can ping the headnode(192.168.1.1) and that’s it!

If I boot with an Ubuntu cd or solaris I can see the nic ok!

I have tried smartos on my laptop in a vmware player everything works fine! But
its not the real thing no!

Now I want the real thing on metal, and it cant go beyond the nic!

Make sure admin_mac does have the right format and matches the MAC address of

And make sure the cable is in there as well - and/or no switch or firewall is
blocking your traffic ;)

Hello,
I would look at your DNS server settings. Could you kindly provide the output of

cat /usbkey/config

Hi

I am new to smartos.

I have installed smartos on my laptop following this guide;
<http://www.machine-unix.com/beginning-with-smartos/>
http://www.machine-unix.com/beginning-with-smartos/

Everything works fine, I can even ssh in.

However when I follow the same procedure on a metal server, I cant ping out the
global zone!

Zonename shows global, dladm show-phys shows state is up. However I cant ping
out! I can ping the local ip, but cant ping the default gateway!

Kindly help (complete newbie)

I am bottom posting because it does make life easier when going through for the
first time or at a later date.

What are your admin_netmask and admin_network entries, they should be

admin_netmask=255.255.255.0

admin_network=...

also your dns_resolvers they should be

dns_resolvers=192.168.1.1,8.8.8.8

Could you also clarify from where you are pinging what. Your complete
/usbkey/config would really help too.

Regards

Usama

Hello,

Can you ping 8.8.8.8 from 192.168.1.3 (your headnode).

Could you edit the line

dns_resolver=8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4

to look like

dns_resolver=192.168.1.1,8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4

and then

sysinfo -u

to update settings and try pinging again.

Also did you rerun setup when you changed your nic card, if not, did you update
the mac address in usbkey/config?

Regards,

Usama
