No I didn't... But I have found in the meantime that I can just call it .Xresources instead of .Xdefaults and it gets automatically taken into account... (Using nodm BTW.)

However, I still can't seem to make it respect -geometry, even from the command line...

I guess I'll just have to go back and read some FM...

IIUC, the issue was the use of matchbox-window-manager. I'm not sure this respects -geometry. Switching over to icewm solved the problem.
