openssh won't let you in with an empty password (at least in default
configuration as shipped in the SHR image). After doing a passwd in the
terminal it should work though.

we switched from dropbear to openssh.

If you have it attached via usb it should not suspend. Though, there is
a bug on startup. If you boot with usb attached it won't work. You have
to unplug/replug once. After that it should not suspend anymore.
