Hi, I am also using Win7/64bit on my second laptop, and I am also developing with 64bit JDK and Cloudhopper's binaries (first laptop is a WinXP/32bit). I also have a netbook w/ ubuntu (32bit) + rxtx for testing things on linux.
I have not observed any timing differences - you are talking about 2x the time, so I am sure I should have noticed it, although never really measured it. I am using a couple of USB 3G sticks. Don't really know what to suggest... A 32bit jdk is an option, unless of course you have other dependencies that require a 64bit jdk.
