My Macbook has today decided not to accept any CDs or DVDs: they go in
reluctantly (they don't get 'sucked in' like they sed to), don't spin
up, and then get spat back out. I tried "helping" one in, but then it
got stuck and I had to reboot holding down the trackpad button to get
it to eject. I'm thinking small-boy-induced hardware failure, is there
_anything_ I can try before putting it in for repair?

(Incidentally, I've tried sharing my iMac's DVD drive and then
connecting from an instance of WIndows XP in VMWare (which is where I
need the disk) but when I access the machine I only see the shared
printer - I've tried connecting by \\192.168.1.125\stuart (which is
the correct short account name) but Windows claims not to be able to
find the address and doesn't prompt for authentication like it should
do)
