hey there. small problem with firewire seems to be occurring. i have a western digital firewire/mini usb external hard drive which i have connected to my imac with a firewire 800 cable - not daisy chained. up until today , the drive has been working fine with my imac. however, now the drive is not being seen by the imac when the firewire cable is connected. if i turn off the drive, unplug the firewire and then plug in the drive using mini usb it operates properly albeit at a much slower rate given the connection. i know this could mean i just need to replace the firewire cable but is there anything else mysterious it could be? I have unplugged and turned off the drive umpteen times with different variations of order in terms of the connection of the firewire cable but it doesn't seem to make any difference. apple system profiler doesn't see the drive but does see my firewire lacie speakers which are connected via the 400 port. any suggestions or is it troubleshooting time?
