Hi John

Sounds like it could be a bad block on the drive, does the mini boot from the installer DVD? Are you able to use Disk Utility to verify/ repair the hard drive?

Regards

Sam

Hi everyone,

One of the computers I'm running is a Mac Mini (1.66GHz IC2D 10.4.11) has been running fine until about a week ago when it appeared to freeze (inasmuch as the spinning beachball). At first I was able to move windows then, once the mouse was released nothing accessible other than mouse moving. It has never reached the point where the mouse won't move.

I removed all peripherals and power supply, pressed 'on' button for 10s then re-connected power and tried re-start - it worked. after about 30 mins after re-connecting external drive the same happened.

I tried the same procedure but left the external drive off completely and the same happened - but after about 10 mins. I left it overnight and tried again and it worked again for about 20 mins.

It has now got to the stage where it gets as far as the grey screen but no apple logo or spinning 'clockface' and doesn't even show up as 'Target' or on the network (cable/wireless) to other Macs to attempt Disc Repair or Verify.

On one of the occasions I got it working I managed to transfer most of the work not backed up since the previous night. Before I do a new system installhere is still some work I need to get back if I can so does anyone have any ideas, please?

Many thanks,
John
