be very careful. All kinds of licences and so on are hidden on that drive. I would only do a fresh install if I had a clone, and would then proceed very very carefully.
I only did one such fresh erase and install since 10.0 (somewhere around Tiger, I think). It took forever to recover normal operations and I had to buy one software licence again which I had somehow misplaced the code for (and the email address was dead).
