Just to complete the list of differences (excluding the missing tilde
key at Bottom left of keyboard)
The @ and " are also annoyingly reversed on US board:-
UK Board US Board
NORMAL 2 3 4 ' 2 3 4 @
UPPERCASE @ £ $ " ' $ £ "
ALT/OPTION € # ¢ æ € # ¢ æ
I am not 100% sue of the Alt?Opt values on the US board though

Hey,
Cool - thought I messed something up with the settings and gave you
the wrong info x)
Yeah I like being able to have €$¢£ as well as it's easier when typing
to people.
Oh and as for my last name - aye I'm part Finnish but I reside in Sweden.
All is well that ends well - cool that your issue got resolved :)

Shift 3 is indeed the pound sign but the dollar is key 4 it's the #
key that is the 3 button to print # (option 3) Just for your info,
(option 4) is ¢. Actually it is very useful having all 3 currency
options available on a keyboard!
Thanks for the clarification Sam and thanks to Nicklas too, for his
stab at my problem. Problem now solved!

If british is ticked and greyed out, that means it's the only one
ticked and thus can't be unticked (you need to have at least one
input method selected).
When you push shift + 3 does it give the £ or $ sign? If it gives £
despite having $ printed on it, then it's using a british keyboard
layout.
If you want to swap the 3 key to one that's got £ rather than $
printed on it, you might be able to find a set of keyboard keys on ebay.
