Hello all.

My iMac seems to have completely frozen insofar that the screen has gone black
and will not respond to either keystrokes or mouse clicks. I have a Drobo
attached to it which houses my substantial Aperture library. The Aperture
library was/is in the process of rebuilding itself following Aperture deciding
to unexpectedly quit yesterday in the middle of upgrading said library in order
for it to be compatible with the software's latest version. Nothing
particularly unusual was happening when my iMac froze just now. Aperture was
sorting itself out in the background and I was running safari, skype, mail, and
ical - nothing too taxing. All of a sudden a video I was watching on Safari
froze and although I could move the mouse around the screen there was no
response from clicking it and I could not switch between applications either by
using the mouse or by using command-tab. The drobo is still whirring away
leading me to believe it is still doing the Aperture work it was doing at the
time. However, the screen is now black and I believe this may be just a result
of it going to sleep. Nevertheless, I cannot wake it. I am tempted to force
the iMac to shutdown by holding down the power button and then restarting it.
Someone please tell me if this is a good or potentially very very bad idea.

Thanks in advance.
