Thanks all for the replies. Very useful. 

It encrypts based on file types - a huge range incl PDF doc xls ppt jpg psd 
eps. It sounds devastating and for those without backup no choice to recover 
important files but pay the ransom.

I'll take a look at Dropbox versions (didn't know about that) and restoring but 
I see I can
leave shared folders and still keep the files so that seems a good option. 

I haven't heard of any clients being infected but it's only a matter of time 
I'm sure. I get tons of the spam emails and they get to look more convincing by 
the day.
