Hi Phil - I used this Agfa scanner <http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002889VQ6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage> to scan all my mum's photos. It cost about £30, is portable, light and the quality was good. Here's one I scanned earlier. <https://www.flickr.com/photos/cah44/7924376462/in/set-72157631390962508> It's a 1960s photo, so the quality of the scan looks like the actual picture.
