Actually, looking again the VM folder is showing as a volume not a folder, so 
would have been mistakenly created in /volumes for some reason. Probably just 
an upgrade quirk or during the conversion to the new file system

I go to the Genius anyway (and reserve yr suggestions for later) but here are 
screenshots (as of now) of the 2 different files.
Upper case VM (proper hidden file) seems to be created today (2 screenshots).
Lower case vm (in the wrong place) is yesterday evening after I had reinstalled.
