I’d tend to go with the iPad and external keyboard if needed (I’ve just bought 
a new Logitech one for £30 new on eBay and it’s lovely).

The iPad will likely be faster, have a much better display, more portable and 
probably do everything she needs. Unless you have specific requirements for 
particular apps that only run on a Mac then my advice to most people is to get 
an iPad.
