However, the two keyboards are indeed mutually exclusive. The difficulty comes 
when the white one pops up first (as it normally does) and is hard to get rid 
of in order to use the black one.

I’ve seen my iPad Pro show the exact opposite where it doesn’t show any 
keyboard at all when I disconnect the smart folio. Perhaps iPadOS has a bug in 
it relating to keyboard detection, it should be automatic and the two keyboards 
should be mutually exclusive.

I’m now using the magic keyboard which, although slightly heavier, is a massive 
improvement in viewing angles and even has a backlit keyboard.
