Thanks everyone. Really helpful. And I've just seen that Keychain (on macOS at least) lets you control the password generator too, which is helpful for some tiems.
I think I'll take the free trial from 1Password, giving me time to get data on to Keychain and Notes (locked Notes is a great feature, thanks!) 1P is really great, and their customer support is great, but the email I had explaining to me why subscription model was so much better and by the far the best way to go, was rather irritating. They suggested they work to a 4yr lifecycle of each version release, with no backdated support when new release launches. Even if one updates every 4 years at full price, that's still 50% cheaper than monthly subscription. Great for 'power' users or managing a team of users perhaps, but for just me, Keychain and Notes looks a good compromise.
