10/10/03 - The way people might imagine this remake in their minds just changed drastically, I expect, with the news that Will Ferrell has signed on to play Darrin after talks with Jim Carrey apparently fell through. I think Will's one of the great comedic talents of today and a huge cinematic rising star, and so I am completely accepting of the news. The one thing worth noting is that he doesn't bear as close a physical resemblance to the two Dicks/Darrins as Jim Carrey does, but somehow I think that's not going to be a huge deal.

Truth or Darrin
Will Ferrell will play Darrin in ''Bewitched'' -- He'll star opposite Nicole Kidman in the sitcom-to-screen adaptation

In keeping with the classic sitcom, we still think that Columbia Pictures should cast two actors to play Darrin Stevens in the big-screen remake of ''Bewitched.'' Nonetheless, the studio has picked just one, according to the Hollywood Reporter. It's Will Ferrell, who'll bring his comic gifts to the old-school series about a fussy man married to a magical witch. Nicole Kidman is attached to the lead role of Samantha Stevens, with Nora Ephron (''You've Got Mail'') directing.

Ferrell just landed another role, in New Line's comedy ''The Salesman,'' Variety reports. He'll play a stereo salesman who's a compulsive liar. That may be good for business, but in his personal life, the falsehoods escalate to the point where he's engaged to two women because he can't bear to disappoint either one. Meanwhile, Ferrell fans can catch him on screen in November as an overgrown North Pole workshop denizen in ''Elf.''
