Burton to host screenings of 'Nightmare'

LOS ANGELES -- Acclaimed filmmaker Tim Burton will help kick off the 10th anniversary celebration for Touchstone Pictures' "The Nightmare Before Christmas." Lylle Breier, senior vice president of special events for Buena Vista Pictures, told Zap2it.com Burton will make personal appearances at two showings at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood Oct. 16. Burton, who produced the film and came up with the original story and characters, will introduce the film and participate in a Q&A session with the audience at the 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. screenings. Special Halloween engagements of "Nightmare" have become an annual tradition at the El Capitan. Also on the bill are two of Burton's short films: the 1982 stop-motion animated short "Vincent" and the 1984 live-action featurette "Frankenweenie." In addition to the films, the El Capitan will feature a display of props and materials related to "Nightmare" and award prizes at each showing for best costumes worn by audience members.
