The Hebrew word for burden means prophecy or doom. Thus, this is a prophecy of the doom of Damascus. Damascus shall cease from being a city because it will become a pile of rubble. The description is that of a nuclear blast that reduces the city to rubble. This has never before taken place in the history of Damascus. He said this has already happened. He didn't really explain when or how. This is what he said: "Damascus was allied with Israel in fighting the Assyrians, but it would all be to no avail because the Assyrians would triumph. Jacob would be like a fat body that wasted away (vs. 4). The destruction of Damascus was fulfilled in history and prophecy. As a result of their discipline by the conquering Assyrians, Israel would turn from their false gods and Asherah poles to the true God. (vs. 7-8)."So, Damascus has been destroyed once, but I wonder if it may happen again.David L.

Russia (Gog) is building the nuclear facilities in Iran. If Israel destroys these, Russians would be killed and may be dragged into a middle east conflict against their will ( Eze 38:4 ). Syria is not mentioned nor is Iraq, in Ezekiel 38 & 39. The USA has eliminated Iraq from the fight and maybe Israel is about to eliminate Syria.
