Addendum...is it worth the reminder that
Gonzales didn't go back to the *father*? He went back to a communist
school for boys where he has lived ever since. He's not been allowed
contact with his mother's family because they are all criminals for leaving
Cuba.

Then why didn't we send commandos to rescue
the girls being held against their will in Saudi Arabia? We didn't even
lift a finger when one of the girls (women by then) was sitting in our own US
Embassy. We told her we could get her out, but she had to leave her
children behind. It seems that our principles during the Clinton
years only extended to those we can bully easily.
In the Gonzales case the father had no
rights actually, he was not a part of the child's life until Castro went and
found him.

LOL...I must admit, I was surprised both times. They are really gorgeous cards. I used to send letters to Clinton all the time, he never sent me a card...maybe it was my approach...I got a real testy form letter back from him when I reamed him out about kidnapping Elian Gonzales.
actually i was in favor of the fathers rights in that case, and i approached it this way. What would we, as Americans, have done if an American child whose mother had died en route to another country was kept in that country by relatives who refused to return that child to the father? Whether we agree with Cuba's politics or not it was the right move, a stink was only raised because it WAS a communist nation the father lived in. If that nation were France, England, or another "allied" nation an American representative would have escorted him home.
