LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Actor Harrison Ford (news) and screenwriter Melissa Mathison have officially ended their marriage of nearly 20 years, according to court papers made public on Wednesday.
A final decree in the uncontested divorce, first reported by the syndicated TV show "Extra," was entered on Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, the documents said.
A spokeswoman for the 61-year-old star confirmed that the divorce was final but had no further comment.
Ford, whose most famous roles include the swaggering "Star Wars" space hero Han Solo and the rugged adventurer Indiana Jones in "Raiders of the Lost Ark," married Mathison in March 1983. They met in 1976 while she was working as an assistant on the set of "Apocalypse Now."
Mathison, 53, went on to become a successful screenwriter, earning an Oscar nomination for 1982's hit "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial." She also wrote "Kundun" (1997) and "The Black Stallion" (1979).
The couple announced in November 2000 that they were separating and hoped to work out their differences, but Mathison filed for legal separation the following August, seeking custody of their two teenage children.
Custody arrangements under the divorce were not disclosed in the court documents. Ford also has two adult sons from his first marriage, which ended in divorce in 1979.
For the past two years, Harrison has been dating TV's former "Ally McBeal" star Calista Flockhart (news), 39. She and her adopted son, Liam, reportedly moved in with Harrison last year.
