As populations grow and expan into formerly rural areas, land suitable for use as flying fields is becoming increasingly scarce. And having to keep fields at least 3 miles apart to ensure no channel conflicts reduces the possibilities even further. The biggest impact of 2.4 is that flying fields can now be closer together, which means that new fields will be possible that simply weren¹t viable before.
All the technical arguments notwithstanding, 2.4 will be instrumental in helping us to solve our number 1 problem: a rapidly dwindling inventory of places to fly. --Jim Laurel
