You kids are so young. Back when I was a kid (pre WWII) they used to sell
H.L. gliders at the 5 &10 store for 10 cents for the little ones (approx 9
inch wingspan, 15 cents for the big ones (12-14 inch wingspan) , and for 25
cents you could buy a big (12-15 inch wingspan) with wings that were spring
loaded and hinged so that they could be launched wings folded back along the
fuselage until they slowed down, then the wings would snap open and they
flew quite well. Histart launcher consisted of a rubber band on a stick.
Trouble was 25 cents was my weeks allowance.

Back in the mid 80's, Paul Carlson sold an HLG kit named the Tantrum that
incorporated such a folding wing concept. Somewhere in my attic, I have a
Tantrum kit that I bought from Paul at Toledo tha last time I went to that
show (1985 I think). Guess the idea didn't prove practical since I never
saw or heard of anyone throwing a Tantrum (HLG, not a fit) :-)
