'Twas I that discovered the problem and reported first here, then on the 9C
group.
So I DO have some real concrete experience.
You are right to suggest a cautious approach, although I still stand by my
recommendation of the 9C with this condition:
If you are thinking of a 9C, then try to hold off until Futaba have
publically resolved the vtail/crow issue. If you really have to have a new
radio right now, then talk to your dealer and tell them you would like to
buy a 9C on the understanding that it will be exchanged when this bug is
fixed by futaba, and then ask for their recommendation...
Ask them what time frame to expect this to happen in...
The distributors I'm sure will know what futaba's plans are in this regard,
but are clearly not at liberty to say anything, but if you have good
relationship with them they should be able to advise as whether you should
proceed or not.
If you have to buy now for a Muller Escape (6 servo wing) or similar then
you would have to get a 8U (or 9Z) as you then need all the available mixes
on the wing and have none left to correct the vtail.
The 9C is a pretty cool radio, it's a synch to drive, and the sliders are
neat, and I am about 80% confident that the vtail thing will be solved by
way of exchange or service, and it my personal expectation that this will be
early next year.

Cheers All,
