BEWARE the law of cosines, which is grossly inaccurate for minimal deltas. IF the distance is a few miles (or more) AND you're using a good COS algorithm, AND double precision variables - then OK. Sorry - I'm a mathematician/computer scientist and GIS nerd. I can also supply documentation tomorrow.
