One thought that favors having SOME contrast between tops and bottoms or SOME assymetry in a glider color scheme is that with ALL black, even if it's very visible, it seems that you run the risk at high altitudes/distances of the 'image reversal' problem in which a silhouette-only image can be mentally reversed (as to which wing is closer for instance).
