The best answer to the MOM draw problem is a modification of the "Swiss
System" used for chess tournaments. In the first round, the pairings
are made by seeding the players; thereafter, players with similar
scores are paired.

Since a sailplane contest can have flight groups of more than two
flyers, the pairing system becomes a grouping system, but the basic
principle can be maintained. 

It should be pretty easy to write a VBA program attached to an Excel
spreadsheet that would do the groupings, score each round, group the
next round, and so on. I haven't done it because our club doesn't do
MOM, but I found that it took only a short time to write a scoring
spreadsheet. Check out the Swiss rules at the above URL and give it a try.
