Arne and Brian,
Hacking up a connector to perform a duty where there are parts that can be had for a lot less hassle, is my idea of an elegant solution. <grin> Those MOLEX parts from Mouser are still too way big for DLG! They are 0.100" spacing, which is the same as what normally comes with your radio system. Then again, I've had folk's complain with small DLG systems because their thumbs are now too big :^)
However the same idea you are employing using 0.100" can be very easily accomplished with wire-to-board connector systems and similar breakaway headers that are 2mm spacing (Milli Grid);

or even 1.5mm;

The fly in the ointment (again) is the ability to properly crimp such small pins and spring contacts. I can not strees how important it is to do a proper crimp job, you need the correct tool. Radio Shack will not cut it, even with larger stuff that some claim can be used with 0.100" contacts.

I'm using the parts John is talking about in his post. I purchased mine from mouser.com. Very lightweight and easy
to assemble, provided you've got the right crimping tool
(buy from radio shack).
Molex Crimp Terminal - Mouser # 538-16-02-0098 ($.17 ea) (these are the little female receptacles you crimp onto your wire ends)
Molex Terminal Housing - Mouser # 538-50-57-9004 ($.61 ea) (plastic terminal housing that fits over the above terminals)
3M 40 Pin Strip - Mouser # 517-6211TG ($.81 ea) (Break-apart male pin strip)
I just bought a load of these for future use. Cheaper than a Dean's connector (i think), lighter, and higher on the geek scale (major bonus!).

You can go a lot lighter than that. The Encore ships with a 4 pin connector that I have seen before at computer parts stores. I think they come about 8 pins wide and you just break off (cut) it down to 4 pin size. Hasn't failed yet!

***Any suggestions for DLG wing connector, where you only need four pins and the light weight is important?***
