I guess the first problems that come to mind are:

-The tow lines getting tangled in the turnaround and the winch each time it passes those points.
-Fixing line breaks...The length of the line is critical. I guess a strap of some kind could be used from winch to turnaround and back that is far stronger than the tow line. I don't know, just a thought.
-Line drag??? Is it an issue? Could guide rings be placed along the length of the returning line to keep it off the ground?
I don't know. I may be waaaayyyy off base.

Just my first thoughts.

Subject: [RCSE] Continuous Loop Winch?

Has anyone here ever heard of a continuous loop sailplane winch? The setup would look something like this:

http://www.vvsss.com/ezone/clwinch.gif

Continuous loops are used with dog lure machines, which are virtually
identical to sailplane winches, and pulleys made for the purpose are
available from Injoy.

(See "S/S Continuous Loop Wheel" at http://www.injoy-1.com/catal_1.htm )

This is an obvious idea and it seems certain that someone must have tried it,
but so far I haven't found anything on the web.
