Some years back I bought a S-10 pickup with canopy to use for hauling soaring stuff. Once when it needed some work, I discovered that I could get longer things in my 4-door DeVille than in the pickup, like the wing of my 12' Genies with one tip removed. Or, with tips removed the rest of the assembled airframe would easily go in the back seat of my 4-door DeVille. Disassembled, I could also get a 10' LT/S in the back seat and another. Other stuff goes in the big trunk. I gradually began using the Caddy all the time while the pickup sat. Last year I drove it less than 2000 miles. Preferring to drive the Caddy anyway and since it gets better mileage than the pickup, I gave the pickup to my 18 year old grandson to use at college, leaving an empty stall in the garage.

Of late, I got the itch for a newer DeVille and found one with showroom appearance. They offered me so little for the older one, I decided to keep it for my aircraft carrier. When I want to look prosperous going to the gas pump, the grocery store or out for dinner, I'll drive the newer one.

I can coax 30 MPG highway out of the Caddies and have less than $8000 in the both of them. Having reached a stage in life where I'd rather have the money than what it will buy, I can't see any sense in laying out big bucks for vehicles. I'd rather give it away to people I'm interested in helping out.

Bet no one agrees with me on this one!
