I flew the Cobra today, and it didn't let me down. I had two really
fantastic flights with it, I remember why I liked this model. This model
is signed by Stu Blanchard in June 2000 on the wing, and really is a primo
example of the Cobra. I almost sold it once, but I am glad the sale didn't
actually go down.
So I was alternating back an forth flying an ICON lite and the Cobra lite
back to back.
It was very interesting to see where my head was at with a competition
sailplane model setup up from 5 years ago.
A few things struck me, first it was weird to hear a moldy howl at speed
again, the ICON is silent. The second thing is how under stabbed the Cobra
feels to me now, yet it has a remarkably good rudder turn for a V
tail. Third is how much I appreciate the useable speed range of the ICON,
and it's awesome manners at scraping low altitude air. And finally how
sporty and fun the Cobra is to fly, and how easy it is to cross hair at
distance. (yikes, anything but lime green is hard for me to see
now!) 8-) I let TK fly it and it even made me a bit nervous how high he
took it, at least I know my JR radio gear of the day is still rock solid.
All in all, a great day to fly today mixing it up and all. 8-)

So I was rummaging around the shop the other night, and pulled out my old
Calypso Cobra Lite. What a beautiful model, I could never bring myself to
selling it. So I cycled the batteries, and checked everything out... I
even brought it out to the field on Sat. but I only ended up flying a
piped up ICON because I was having such a good time with it.
I think I will give it a try tomorrow at Hampshire, I used to really like
this model before I started flying the ICON. Nothing against my woobie
the ICON, I just need to go fly this model again and see it fly. 8-)
