I used to help out a lot with SCCA autosports events, and I can't stress
Don's comments enough.
Until subpoena'ed by a court, we are under no obligation to discuss things
with them - and anything we do say to a lawyer or court official *will* be
recorded and kept on file. Even innocent comments may be used by a sheister
lawyer to try to influence a jury regarding the type of people or attitudes
in the group. There is no reason to give them any "ammunition", so no
response (or a blank "no comment" if you MUST) is the best response.
Not to make people paranoid, but the *really* tricky ones are the lawyers
who contact you (or show up at an event) asking questions as if they're a
potential newcomer or curious member of the public. I always ask people
right off the bat: "so, are you thinking about trying the sport?" or "are
you thinking about joining the club?"... This seems to "pull" a response
out of people as to their interest and intent.
Take care,

Unless you receive a court document or legal document (and only then let
YOUR lawyer advise response first) BUT do not say a word. No matter how
innocent you are or how nice they are! I agree with the other email: Let
your AMA or other handle this, that's why we pay our annual dues. Keep it
for your records; but don't let them keep your words for their records
which
if given the chance will be turned against you later.
