Nothing whatsoever. In fact, that sounds like a really good idea. It
could serve not only as a social networking server, but also as a home
media/backup server.
I think this is one of the plans for OwnCloud as well.
It might be a nice combo to run OwnCloud+GNU Social on such a small
Sheeva/Guru Plug ;)

Absolutely - there isn't anything inherently wrong with the idea of
cloud computing; all it means is that you can access all your files,
documents, media, etc. from any computer connected to the internet. The
idea is a good one - it's just that the highly proprietary
implementation of it has been wrong. There are a number of problems with
cloud computing as we know it (Google Docs, etc.) ranging from privacy
concerns to the fact that much of the software is confined to the web
browser that could be solved by the implementation of a personal cloud.
OwnCloud+GNU Social could certainly make a good pair, particularly when
run off of the same device. Not many people would be willing to buy one
/just/ so they could use GNU Social - it has to have other uses, and
OwnCloud would certainly be one. Farther down the road, we could look at
some integration between GNU Social and OwnCloud, too.
