Mabe starting from the fact that linux is based on a client/server 
architecture and thus  natively supports networking _and_ secure

But I wouldn't get into this pro/con thing if I were you.
Focus on what networking really means: exchange compatible data sets. 
Focus on standards and how they are implemented and work, get a linux 
sysadmin to give you concrete info...
