Kernel 2.6.34 seemed to get rid of the kernel errors and reboots. It has caused a load of other problems, and the CAN still won't work, but I think both of these might be our fault now - I'll post again if I can't figure out why the CAN isn't working.

I would use a latter kernel with the mcp251x driver built in. I'm
using 2.6.31, but even latter should be fine. We've gone weeks with
continuous operation without any issues.
