128MB flash? I have managed to install Debian base on a 256MB flash but it was a tight fit. Even if you put /var & the deb-files in tmpfs and didn't install the kernel you would still need about 160-180MB just for the base system. if you want it on 128MB you can try installing on a remote rootfs (NFS) and then afterwards try to make it fit on the flash.
